The effective lifting capacity of the magnetic lifter can also be affected by

Material thickness - actual thickness of the steel that you are lifting
Air Gap - the gap between the steel and the lifting magnet eg rust, paint, dirt and uneven steel surface

Steel Carbon Composition - high carbon steel reduces the lifting capacity by 30% while cast iron will be 50% less

Round Bar and Pipe - The lifting capacity could be 30-50% less than flat plate but the lifting magnet is fitted with a groove to assist in the lifting of round items. The steel wall thickness will also affect the lifting capacity
Sheet - If the sheet is too thin you may inadvertently lift the lower sheets from a steel stack. This will make the lift extremely unsafe and this should not be attempted.
